Private Business Testing
A private company or firm can conduct polygraph tests of their employees, but it must follow strict guidelines of the Employee Polygraph Protection act of 1988. The most common exemption that allows this type of testing is if an employee is reasonably suspected of involvement in a workplace incident (theft, embezzlement, etc.) that resulted in specific economic loss or injury to the employer. Employer cannot punish employee for simply failing a polygraph without additional supporting evidence that would warrant such action.
Private Individual Testing
An individual can take a polygraph on just about any situation that is gaging an overt act or behavior. All testing is voluntary examinee must sign consent form to take the polygraph or eyedetect. Mississippi has an age restriction for polygraph testing. A client must be at least 12 years of age to take a lie detection test with parent or guardian consent. All lie detection tests are confidential. Areas of testing: theft, sexual affairs, emotional affairs, drug use, child custody allegations, resume verification, defamation allegations, financial disputes, civil matters.
Clinical Testing
Polygraph has been used in the clinical addiction arena since 1970s in other states. Mississippi therapists started increased use in 2000s. This type of testing is specialized and recommend you have therapist input in building the testing scenario. The most common areas of clinical testing is sex addiction, substance use disorder, gambling or other compulsive disorders, workplace boundaries, sexual harassment, anger management, diversion of medications, compliance with monitoring.
Polygraph Test
Today’s polygraph records five or more channels of physiological data. Two corrugated tubes
are placed around the body, one just above the heart and the other over the stomach to detect
motion associated with breathing. Changes in skin moisture are monitored with sensors placed
on the fingers or palms. Pulse and relative blood pressure are detected using a standard blood
pressure cuff placed on the arm. Many instruments also record changes in blood vessel dilation
using a finger sensor and all polygraphs now include sensors to detect body movement. Each
component is very sensitive to bodily changes. From the beginning to the end of the test, a
person’s body emits physiological data that will be later reviewed by the polygraph examiner to
determine if the examinee was telling the truth.
EyeDetect Test
It’s a next-generation lie detector that measures slight changes in eye behaviors to detect lies. Get 86-88% accuracy with 30-minute screening tests or 15-minute diagnostic (single-issue) tests. World renowned scientists at the University of Utah developed the technology in 2003 and through extensive research, they have made improvements ever since. Combine this technology with polygraph and get 99% confidence your outcome is the correct one. As a polygraph examiner, I have found this test very helpful when you are testing certain individuals who are extremely nervous.
